Currently, our summer associate program is available to second-year law students in our Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Jackson, Lafayette, and New Orleans offices, although limited opportunities for first-year law students may be available in some offices from time to time. We encourage students who are interested in our dynamic summer program to get to know us through our recruiting materials and at our on-campus interview events.
Our summer associates typically spend time researching, analyzing legal issues, and drafting transactional documents and pleadings, but are strongly encouraged to become more deeply involved in cases and other work. Summer associates observe practice situations and participate in various non-research and writing activities, including accompanying attorneys to depositions, trials, mediations, closings, drafting sessions, and work site and vessel inspections. Jones Walker's summer associates work hand-in-hand with our full-time associates and partners to gain exposure to and knowledge of day-to-day legal practice.
In our larger offices, summer associates are paired up with attorney advisors during their clerkship. These attorneys help integrate summer associates into firm life and provide feedback on assignments, answer any questions about particular projects, office policy, and other matters.
