For the second year, Jones Walker served as the premier sponsor for the Lakeshore Foundation’s "Amazing Race." The fundraising event, modeled after the popular television show, was held on Saturday, April 14, 2012, and was sponsored by the Foundation’s Junior Board of which three Jones Walker associates, Mary Colleen B. Beers, Jeffrey T. Powell, and V. Walker Wells, are members. Thirty-four teams competed in various challenges, including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair volleyball, and Paralympic swimming, which were designed to emulate the events at the upcoming 2012 Paralympic Games.
Lakeshore Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes independence for persons with physically disabling conditions and provides opportunities to pursue active, healthy lifestyles. The Foundation serves more than 3,000 individuals with physical disabilities each year. Earlier this year, Jones Walker nominated the Lakeshore Foundation for the Birmingham Business Journal’s first annual Nonprofit Awards. At a luncheon held on April 12, 2012, the Birmingham Business Journal presented the Lakeshore Foundation with the award for the best nonprofit in the "Large Nonprofits" category. The luncheon was attended by Board Members of the Lakeshore Foundation and Jones Walker attorneys, Edward J. Ashton, Victoria J. Franklin-Sisson, and V. Walker Wells.
