Winter Awarded Doctoral Degree at Mississippi State University

The Honorable William F. Winter, special counsel in the firm's Government Relations practice in the Jackson office, was recently awarded an honorary doctoral degree in public service from Mississippi State University. Winter, Mississippi governor from 1980-84, is nationally recognized for his leadership in helping bring about the state’s education reform act that created Mississippi's first public kindergartens, among other school improvements. A former state legislator who was elected state tax collector, treasurer, and lieutenant governor, he has been honored with a Profile in Courage Award by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and the 2009 Mississippi Medal of Service by the state of Mississippi. In addition, Gov. Winter holds a Mississippi Bar Association Lifetime Achievement Award and is a Fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation. He has long championed racial equality and educational opportunities in Mississippi, the region, and beyond.
