Ourso Reappointed to Chair of ABA Intellectual Property Law Section’s Trademark Legislation Committee, Serving on INTA’s U. S. Legislation Committee, and Honored by Best Lawyers

OursoJustin Ourso, a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and in the Business Litigation section in the Baton Rouge office, has been reappointed to the Chair of the Trademark Legislation Committee of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the American Bar Association for the 2016-2017 membership year.  The ABA’s Section of Intellectual Property Law is the world’s largest association of intellectual property professionals.  The Trademark Legislation Committee reviews all bills introduced in Congress that would amend the Lanham Act, the federal trademark statute; monitors state and municipal trademark legislation; and proposes policy on trademarks to the Section and the Association by submitting reports and proposed resolutions to the Section’s Council. 

Justin is continuing to serve a two-year appointment to the Legislation and Regulation Committee and its U. S Legislation Subcommittee of the International Trademark Association.  INTA is a not-for-profit organization, with more than 5,900 members in more than 190 countries, including trademark owners, law firms, and other professionals, that supports the advancement of trademarks and related intellectual property as essential elements of trade and commerce.  Its U. S Legislation Subcommittee also vets all legislation in Congress that would amend the Lanham Act or otherwise affect federal trademark law. 

Justin was also recently selected for inclusion in the 23d edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the practice areas of Litigation - Intellectual Property and Trademark Law.  He has been selected annually by Best Lawyers since 2012.  Additionally, Best Lawyers honored Justin as the “Lawyer of the Year” in the practice area of Trademark Law in Baton Rouge.  Inclusion in Best Lawyers is based on a rigorous peer-review survey comprising more than 7.3 million confidential evaluations by top attorneys.
