Orleans Parish District Attorney Drops False Impersonation Charge Against Taryn Blume
Jones Walker Attorneys Served as Pro Bono Counsel
January 3, 2017
NEW ORLEANS — January 3, 2017 — Unable to secure a fourth continuance of the trial this morning, the Orleans Parish District Attorney dropped its false impersonation charge against Taryn Blume, a former investigator of the Orleans Parish Public Defenders.

Jones Walker LLP proudly served as pro bono counsel for Ms. Blume. Michael W. Magner and Mark A. Cunningham were the lead trial attorneys. Mr. Magner commented that  "The charges against Ms. Blume never had any factual support – the two witnesses who claimed they were misled subsequently conceded that they and their subordinate received business cards from Ms. Blume identifying her as an investigator for the public defenders."

Mr. Cunningham added "We are hopeful that District Attorney Cannizzaro will move forward for the benefit of New Orleans and the administration of justice by recognizing the ethical duty and professional obligation of the Orleans Parish Public Defenders to investigate their cases thoroughly and establish an open line of communication with that office to avoid similar misunderstandings in the future."

Jones Walker attorneys are routinely called upon to provide pro bono representation to nonprofit organizations, international NGOs, and individuals in cases addressing important legal issues. The law firm is particularly focused on cases involving the administration of justice and indigent criminal defense.
