Jones Walker partner Sidney F. Lewis, V recently authored three articles in New Orleans CityBusiness, which have all appeared in the publication's Guest Perspective column.
Mr. Lewis' first article, titled "Employee Wage Laws Present Minefield to Small Businesses," was published on January 29 and details problematic compensation issues employers often face, such as properly classifying employees, correctly computing overtime wages, and capturing all work time. The second article, published March 24 and titled “Precise Employee Handbooks Save Business Headaches,” outlines items and criteria employers should consider including in an employee handbook, as well as the legal ramifications of each item. Mr. Lewis’ third article, “Supervisors Play Crucial Role in Solid Employee Relations,” identifies the qualities of managers and supervisors who contribute to positive employee relations and the role good employee relations plays in avoiding employment litigation.
In the future, CityBusiness may publish additional labor and employment law articles written by Mr. Lewis as space allows. CityBusiness is published every Monday.
Mr. Lewis is the practice group leader of Jones Walker's Labor & Employment Practice Group, and he consults and advises management and human resources personnel with respect to employment and labor laws in all industries throughout the United States.
