Jones Walker's Baton Rouge Office Gives Back on "Service Saturday"
March 12, 2009

On Saturday, February 28, members of Jones Walker's Baton Rouge office participated in Service Saturday, a community service project organized by Forum 35 to benefit East Baton Rouge Acceleration Academy.

To raise funds needed for the renovation projects at the school, the Baton Rouge office held a Jeans and Jambalaya day, where employees could purchase the right to wear jeans on a Friday and enjoy a jambalaya lunch cooked by partner Ryan E. Johnson. Employees also donated items for an auction, and raised more than $1,000 for the Service Saturday project.

With the help of volunteer contractors, the Live Oak High School varsity boys' basketball team, and members of Forum 35, the group undertook several projects at Acceleration Academy, including refurbishing a greenhouse, improving landscaping around the school, hanging a new school sign, and installing four large wooden benches on the campus. More than 60 volunteers participated in the project and helped to make it a success.

In addition, Jones Walker would like to thank the following vendors who graciously donated materials and offered discounts on materials and services that made the Service Saturday project possible:

  • Clegg's Nursery
  • Dimensions in Design
  • John Burton
  • Rebel Stamp
  • The Lemoine Company
