Jones Walker is a sponsor of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Louisiana Judicial College's summer Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program, "Joining Forces: The Louisiana Judicial College and the LSBA Summer School." Additionally, the firm is a sponsor of the LSBA's Annual Meeting, held June 7–12 in Destin, Fla.
This year's CLE program has been redesigned to span an entire week, providing attorneys with more content while encouraging increased participation and involvement in the seminars. Attendees will receive CLE credit. Core segments of the program include the criminal justice system, judicial independence, small group breakout sessions, and three open forums called "The Great Debates," open discussions involving issues pertinent to the practice of law and the public perception of attorneys. Issues include the use of specialty courts versus continuing with courts of general jurisdiction; choosing judges in Louisiana by appointment or election; and the changing practice of law in the workplace, including diversity and other issues on how to improve the quality of the workplace. The week-long program will end with a discussion on jury selection.
