Barrett Rice is a partner in the firm's Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group and practices closely with the Admiralty & Maritime Practice Group. She represents clients primarily in the maritime, oil and gas, transportation and insurance industries.

Ms. Rice's experience includes personal injury litigation, collision/allision litigation, OPA litigation, property damage claims, contract disputes, AAA and ICC arbitration, cargo and charter party disputes, claims for and against limitation of liability, vessel seizures, riparian rights, right-of-way disputes, marine insurance, marine pollution matters, reservoir damage, and other environmental litigation.

Representative Matters

  • Successfully obtained an injunction against neighboring property owner in the Port of Lake Charles; negotiated agreement between parties for future use of Calcasieu ship channel in front of properties.
  • Successfully defeated shipowner's limitation action for client/oil company whose well was destroyed, resulting in oil pollution, loss of reservoir and economic claims under OPA '90.
  • Successfully defended clients in Jones Act jury trials in Corpus Christi, Texas and Cameron, Louisiana.
  • Successfully defended various clients in numerous Jones Act bench and jury trials in the Eastern District of Louisiana.
