Christopher Wappel is special counsel in the firm's Business & Commercial Transactions Practice Group and practices from the firm's New Orleans office. He has been practicing law since 1999 and focuses on commercial lending and finance, representing both borrowers and lenders in the negotiation and documentation of credit facilities secured by all types of Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) collateral, real estate, and vessels.

Mr. Wappel also has significant experience in public finance, often serving as bond counsel for the issuance of tax-exempt bonds, including the Gulf Opportunity Zone (GO Zone) bonds. He has served as bank, issuer's, trustee's, and underwriter's counsel for numerous tax-exempt bond offerings and has advised clients on economic development issues and incentives, particularly involving the New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) program. Prior to joining Jones Walker, Mr. Wappel was an associate with McGlinchey Stafford in New Orleans.

Mr. Wappel received his juris doctor degree from Tulane University Law School in 1999, cum laude, and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (emphasis on international relations) from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1996. While in law school, Mr. Wappel obtained his European Legal Practice Certificate.

Representative Matters

  • Represented a professional sports team as borrower in negotiations and closing of transactions, which included term note Series F and Series G issuance under league-wide term facility
  • Represented a bank in loans to a hotel developer in connection with New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) financing
