Construction Practice

Edward Dirk Wegmann is a partner in the firm's New Orleans office and a member of its Construction Practice Group. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University and Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University.

Mr. Wegmann has been a member of the firm's Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group since 1979, and his practice involves complex matters in the fields of construction, real estate, business litigation, insurance litigation, trust and estate litigation, and tax litigation.

Mr. Wegmann is a member of the American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry, where he is a member of Division 7 (Insurance, Surety & Liens).

Mr. Wegmann is listed in Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers in multiple areas of practice including commercial litigation and/or construction litigation.

Mr. Wegmann has a wide variety of experience in construction and construction related claims involving architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, owners, and materialmen. In the construction dispute area he has prosecuted and defended numerous bond claims, lien disputes, and contract dispute in state and federal courts and in arbitration, including the following:

  • Represented a general contractor in a contract and bond dispute involving a pumping station contract for the Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Represented a national manufacturer and builder of commercial conveyor systems in a dispute regarding the sale and construction of a conveyor system installed at a paper mill.
  • Represented a university in a dispute with its general contractor and its insurer involving a Hurricane Katrina restoration claim.
  • Represented an oil and gas contractor in a contract and engineering dispute regarding the design and construction of suction caissons for a SPAR on the Outer Continental Shelf.
  • Represented a homeowner in construction dispute with a general contractor involving a dispute over construction of a custom built home.
  • Represented a plumbing contractor in a dispute arising out of the construction of a hotel.
  • Represented a fire systems contractor in a construction claim brought by the general contractor on a federal construction project.
  • Represented the owner of a petrochemical plant in a construction claim against the general contractor for cost overruns and deficient work and a delay damages claim.
  • Handled claim for homeowner for defective windows installed in custom home.
  • Handled claim commercial property owner against general contractor and subs for defective work in construction of a hotel and shopping center.
  • Handled claim for owner of chemical plant against electrical contractor for defective work on a plant expansion project.
