Judith Windhorst is a partner in the firm's Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group, and joined Jones Walker's New Orleans office in 1989 following graduation from Harvard Law School. Ms. Windhorst's practice emphasizes a wide variety of complex litigation, including the defense class actions, toxic tort, products liability, and environmental claims. Her environmental practice includes wetlands permitting, defense of state and federal compliance orders and penalty notices, and regulatory hearings. She has considerable experience in complex electronic discovery proceedings.

As a trial attorney, Ms. Windhorst has handled numerous disputes in a wide variety of practice areas: RICO, antitrust, securities litigation, ERISA, dealer distributor disputes, legal malpractice, fraud, and products liability. Ms. Windhorst's practice has also included a large cross section of industries and businesses: telecommunications and Internet equipment, chemicals, adhesives, paints, gaming, computers and electronics, waste water treatment, bus and rail transportation, shipyards, solid waste disposal, soft drinks, vacuum cleaners, garden and pet supply, and insurance. She also has extensive experience in the area of governmental relations and regulatory matters.

  • Permitting of commercial medical waste incinerator, In re Health Management, Inc. (Standard Permit P-0241), St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana
  • Defended manufacturer of ozone generator against tort claims for alleged occupational exposure to ozone
  • Defense of class actions for numerous personal-injury and punitive-damage claims arising out of release(s) of chlorine gas, including several class actions
  • Defense of hundreds of federal and state court claims and class actions for compensatory and punitive damages due to tank car fire resulting from the ignition of butadiene
  • Defense against class action alleging personal injury, property damage, and punitive damages from asphalt operations
  • Defense of numerous Superfund cases and related toxic tort suits in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, involving personal-injury and punitive-damage claims related to several abandoned hazardous waste sites
  • Prosecution and defense of claims related to a chlorine-related fire involving calcium hypochlorite
  • Defense of various penalty assessments and compliance orders issued by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality
