Katie Friel is a partner in Jones Walker's Tax & Estates Practice Group and practices from the firm's New Orleans office. Her practice focuses primarily in the area of state and local taxation (SALT).
Ms. Friel provides a full range of state and local tax services encompassing tax planning and controversy work. Her practice includes advising clients on the state and local tax ramifications of proposed business transactions, obtaining private letter rulings, and assisting with state tax amnesty and voluntary disclosure programs. Additionally, Ms. Friel frequently represents clients in state and local tax controversies at audit, protest, administrative appeal, and settlement stages, as well as throughout litigation, representing taxpayers in disputes with the Louisiana Department of Revenue and various local tax authorities.
Prior to joining Jones Walker, Ms. Friel was counsel to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, serving as an Appeals Officer. Ms. Friel holds an Master of Laws in Taxation from the Boston University School of Law and a juris doctor degree from Tulane University. She received her bachelor of science degree from Truman State University in 2001. Ms. Friel is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association's Section of Taxation.
