Bill Cody joins Jones Walker after having served as the Senior Legislative Assistant and Counsel for former Congressman Bobby Jindal from January 2007–April 2008. In this capacity, Mr. Cody was Congressman Jindal's primary advisor on legislation relating to transportation, energy, environment, natural resources, trade, labor, agriculture, Native Americans, and education. Before joining Congressman Jindal's office, Mr. Cody worked as Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation. In this position, Mr. Cody primarily researched, drafted, and analyzed legislation concerning maritime transportation and United States Coast Guard roles and missions.
Prior to working in the Congress, Mr. Cody practiced admiralty and maritime law primarily focusing on litigation involving the Jones Act and General Maritime law arising from oil and gas exploration activities in the Gulf of Mexico and towing operations in the Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi River. In addition, he practiced Railroad and Toxic Tort law, primarily involving the Federal Employers Liability Act ("FELA"), environmental remediation, and class action litigation concerning chemical releases.
