Ben Harris has more than 25 years of experience in commercial litigation and is the firm’s Banking and Creditor Rights Team Leader. He began his career as a clerk to the Honorable Patrick E. Higginbotham on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals before practicing in Washington, D.C. first with the General Counsel’s Office of the Federal Trade Commission and later with Williams & Connolly, LLP.

Mr. Harris returned to practice over twenty years ago. His practice includes complex civil litigation, bankruptcy, securities litigation, and litigation involving financial institutions, and he represents financial institutions in lender liability actions, suits to enforce creditor rights, and in suits relating to operational matters. Mr. Harris also represents troubled financial institutions and their officers and directors not only throughout the state of Alabama but also across the country.

Mr. Harris has tried dozens of cases throughout the country to verdict in both bench and jury trials. He has obtained successful jury verdicts in complex, multi-million-dollar cases in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He has also served as counsel to publicly traded bank holding companies in shareholder derivative and class action litigation, and has served as counsel to special committees of the boards of directors of these institutions in such matters.

Mr. Harris has also assisted financial institutions and other clients in resolving issues in Central and Latin America, and has assisted companies and educational institutions interested in developing trade in Cuba. He has traveled to Cuba on several occasions for that purpose.

Mr. Harris is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy and creditor rights issues throughout the country.
