Jay Adams is a partner in the firm’s Tax & Estates Practice Group. Prior to joining Jones Walker, he was a founding member of the law firm of Oreck Crighton Adams & Chase. Mr. Adams has represented clients in matters involving practically every type of sales and local tax in a number of states and local jurisdictions. During over twenty years of practice, he has represented clients with interests in all phases of the energy industry, including specifically companies involved in natural gas production, gathering, processing, transmission, storage, and distribution, and all of the associated state and local tax issues that can arise. He has represented taxpayers before administrative tribunals and in court in Louisiana, Texas, Colorado and Wyoming.
He has successfully represented taxpayers in a number of significant state tax cases, including International Paper Company v. Bridges, 972 So.2d 1121 (La. 2008); Wyoming Department of Revenue v. Hanover Compression, L.P., 196 P.3d 781 (Wyo. 2008); Bridges v. Production Operators, Inc., 2010-0905 (La.App. 4th Cir. 2/8/10); Hanover Compressor Co. v. Department of Revenue, 838 So.2d 876 (La. App.3rd 2003); Scientific Drilling International, Inc. v. Meche , 29 So.3d 1283 (La. App. 3rd 2010), writ denied, 34 So.3d 298 (La. 2010); and Shell Pipeline Corp. v. Kennedy, 818 So.2d 903 (La. App. 1st Cir. 2002).
He is also a frequent speaker to a variety of professional organizations, including the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, the Council on State Taxation and the Tax Executives Institute.
