Trey Cloud is a partner at Jones Walker. His practice comprises of energy and commercial real estate. Mr. Cloud's energy practice includes representation of large, independant, major oil and gas companies and large landowners in title examination, contracts, lease negotiations and currative work, including experience in the Haynesville Shale.
Mr. Cloud represents developers and investors in each phase of their project, from initial planning and acquisition through title review, due diligence, financing, and development. His representation includes complex negotiations between clients and lenders, including multi-tiered financing strategies, refinances, and workouts. His clients include developers of office buildings, shopping centers, Traditional Neighborhood Developments (TNDs), apartment complexes, condominiums, hotels, and mixed-use projects.
Additionally, Mr. Cloud has experience in representing both landlords and tenants in preparing and negotiating commercial leases. He has negotiated leases with national tenants ranging from specialty to anchor status and spanning a wide variety of retail segments—fashion and apparel, home furnishings, restaurants, grocery stores, franchises, cinemas, bookstores, and auto parts—and has done so in the context of outparcels, office buildings, strip centers, lifestyle centers, malls, mixed-use developments, and warehouses, including the recent negotiation of retail leases on behalf of the landlord for an approximately 400,000-square-foot mixed-use development. Mr. Cloud also has experience negotiating lease workouts and lease settlements for both landlords and tenants. He is an active member of the International Conference of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
Having received an undergraduate degree in Business, Management and Administration from Louisiana State University in 1997, Mr. Cloud can relate to and understand the business issues, concerns, and motivations of his clients. He calls upon his business experience to implement a practical, pro-business approach in his legal practice.
In addition to his experience in commercial real estate, Mr. Cloud is a licensed patent attorney with United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has multiple years of experience in patent prosecution, and has worked on technologies ranging from proteins to coastal restoration devices.
