Carmen Rodriguez is special counsel in the firm's Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group and practices from the firm's Lafayette office. When she joins a litigation team, her role centers on analysis, case evaluation, research, and briefing at both the district and appellate levels. Ms. Rodriguez' substantive practice is varied, and includes admiralty, commercial litigation, administrative law, telecommunications, environmental and toxic tort litigation, and insurance coverage and fraud.  She has considerable experience with complex cases, including both multi-district litigation and class actions.  She was recently appointed Deputy Special Master for the In re: Actos (Pioglitazone) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2299 in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.

Ms. Rodriguez joined Jones Walker in 2009, having previously worked for Longman Russo, APLC in the same capacity. She also worked for Liskow & Lewis as a litigator in the areas of toxic tort litigation, admiralty, bank director and officer litigation, energy litigation, and commercial disputes.

From 1992–1993 and 2003–2006, Ms. Rodriguez served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Rebecca F. Doherty, U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Louisiana. She also clerked for the Honorable Richard T. Haik, U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Louisiana, from 1993-1996, with special assignment to the Combustion, Inc. multi-district environmental litigation.

Representative Matters

Multi-District Litigation

  • In re: Actos (Pioglitazone) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 11-md-2299-Deputy Special Master, including responsibility for legal analysis, case management, discovery (including ESI and predictive coding), and privilege review.  

  • Worked as the sole judicial law clerk for both United States District Judge Richard T. Haik and United States Magistrate Judge Pamela A. Tynes in In re: Combustion, Inc., 94-MDL-4000, serving as liaison to counsel as well as case management, assisting the Court with rulings on numerous legal issues and discovery disputes, both those raised in the context of motions and those that arose through daily handling of the case.

Defending suits involving allegations of environmental contamination and other harm, such as:

Defending suits involving extensive cross-indemnity disputes, personal injury defense, general litigation, including:

  • Apache Corporation v. GlobalSantaFe Corporation, et al, Civil Action No. 06-1643, United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana (litigated jury trial rights up to a writ denial in the United States Supreme Court)
