Donald Washington's focus is on oil and gas and commercial litigation, health care litigation, corporate investigations, white collar crime, and other civil and criminal litigation. His oil and gas experience includes many aspects of representing exploration and production companies, including the drafting of master service agreements on behalf of a major US oil and gas company.
He comes to Jones Walker from the United States Attorney's office, Western District of Louisiana, where he served as United States Attorney since 2001. He practices from the firm's Lafayette office. Mr. Washington has 20 years of experience as a trial attorney and litigator. He has led investigations and trial teams as well as prosecuted cases involving criminal and civil violations of federal statutes. He has litigated cases in the areas of health care, tort claims, commercial, admiralty, insurance, employment, and toxic tort litigation.
Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mr. Washington held various positions at Conoco Inc. from 1982–1996, including serving as Chief Counsel for Conoco's Gulf of Mexico Division until 1996. He was in the private practice of law from 1996–2001. Mr. Washington received his juris doctor degree from the South Texas College of Law in 1989, and his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1977.
