Jim Birchall is a partner in the firm's Business & Commercial Transactions Practice Group and practices from the firm's Birmingham office. His practice has included both municipal and public finance for more than 30 years.

A longtime member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, and a Fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel, Mr. Birchall has served as bond counsel of cities, counties, boards of education, hospitals and health care organizations, nonprofit and 501(c)(3) organizations, utility systems, housing authorities, and solid waste disposal authorities in Alabama.

Mr. Birchall has served as trustee's counsel and as special counsel of commercial banks in Alabama and in other states, and has provided secured and unsecured financing to public and private organizations, including private and public financings involving loans, leases, and letters of credit. He has also served as special counsel to underwriters, financial advisers, and placement agents in public financings in Alabama and other states. He regularly advises clients with respect to tax and other incentives for business development in Alabama, and has also been involved in the drafting of legislation and constitutional amendments.

A member of many civic, school, and community organizations for a number of years, Mr. Birchall recently concluded serving his sixth term as a member of the Board of Governors at Shoal Creek Golf Club.
