Laura Ashley is a partner practicing in the firm’s Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group. She joined the firm after graduating from Loyola Law School where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Loyola Law Review and after she served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ivan L.R. Lemelle of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. She represents and counsels a diverse group of national and international companies particularly in the areas of commercial bankruptcy litigation, out-of-court workouts, foreclosure litigation, and complex litigation.

Bankruptcy Litigation

Her bankruptcy litigation experience includes Chapter 11 reorganizations, Chapter 15 filings and other cross-border insolvency matters,  prosecution and defense of preferences, fraudulent conveyances, dischargeability issues, lessor/lessee rights, asset sales and the automatic stay. Ms. Ashley represents debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, banks, hedge funds, committees, trustees, fiduciaries and other parties in insolvency and adversary proceedings in a broad range of industries including financial services, maritime, oil and gas, construction, and real estate development.

Out-of-Court Workouts

Ms. Ashley has experience in out-of-court restructuring, workouts, loan restructuring and liquidations, and various other matters involving financial distress, on behalf of creditors and borrowers involving all types of financing, properties and businesses. Her experience includes negotiating and drafting loan origination and workout documentation and representation in related enforcement litigation.

Ms. Ashley is an active member of the Louisiana Bankruptcy Bar and is the chair of the Louisiana Network of the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation.

Ms. Ashley also devotes her practice to representing banks, hedge funds and other lenders in successfully foreclosing on multi-million dollar properties via Louisiana’s complex Executory Process scheme in state and federal courts. Ms. Ashley has also represented third-party bidders on successfully bidding on properties during a foreclosure sale.

Another aspect of Ms. Ashley’s practice is defending against so-called "blast text," "blast fax," and robocall class actions involving claims under the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) restricting unsolicited faxes and the use of autodialer, prerecorded, or artificial voice to place texts or calls.
