Todd Weldy is a member of the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group and Energy Industry Team, and concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate, oil and gas and general business matters.

Mr. Weldy’s real estate practice includes acquisitions, developments, leasing and sales of commercial real estate.  In particular, he has extensive experience with shopping center development, including drafting and negotiating purchase agreements, ground and space leases, easements with covenants and restrictions, development agreements and servitude agreements.

Mr. Weldy’s energy practice includes conducting title examinations, issuing title opinions and handling related curative work for exploration and production companies, and negotiating and drafting pipeline servitudes for midstream companies.

He also has experience with various business matters, including mergers, acquisitions and divestitures by public and private companies.

Mr. Weldy has lectured on Louisiana servitude law and has served on the board of directors of Forum 35, a community based young professionals organization.

Prior to law school, Mr. Weldy worked for several years as a transactional paralegal and also served in the U.S. Army as the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Criminal Law and Legal Assistance for the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate in Fulda, Germany, and as an Infantryman in Ft. Carson, Colorado.

Representative Matters

  • Assisted in the representation of a publicly traded national homebuilding company with its $130 million sale of assets.
  • Represented one of the world's largest retailers with its real estate acquisition and shopping center development for 13 shopping centers in Louisiana.
  • Represented a national restaurant chain with its various office and restaurant leasing issues at locations throughout the country.
  • Assisted in the representation of a publicly traded wholesale power generation company with its debt refinancing covering all Louisiana assets totaling $406 million.
  • Assisted in the representation of a publicly traded wholesale power generation company with its $3.7 million sale of an electrical substation.
  • Assisted in the representation of a national chemical manufacturer with its sale of a pipeline.
  • Assisted in the representation of a national chemical manufacturer with its acquisition of a tank farm and cooling tower.
  • Represented a publicly traded international insurance organization with its sale and leaseback of a $4.6 million office building.
  • Assisted in the representation of a publicly traded billboard advertising company with 10 stock and asset acquisitions totaling $145 million.
