Warren Fleet joined Jones Walker as a special counsel after serving as General Counsel of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources for the prior 11 years. As General Counsel, his duties included, among other things, title issues relative to exploration and production of oil & gas, negotiation and drafting of agreements relative to land rights, and the state’s coastal restoration program.
As chief legal officer for an executive branch state agency, Mr. Fleet was involved in the legislative process and all legal issues involving the department. He worked extensively with other governmental entities, including the Office of the Governor, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and the Army Corps of Engineers.
Prior to that, Mr. Fleet served as an Assistant Attorney General representing Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and the State Mineral Board. From 1980–1985, Mr. Fleet was employed as a Landman for ARCO Oil & Gas Co., a division of Atlantic Richfield Company.
Mr. Fleet has lectured on natural resource issues at various legal seminars across the country and in Asia. He is a native of Baton Rouge.
