Lance Foster was registered to practice before the Louisiana Supreme Court in 1991. He practices in all areas of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and the litigation associated therewith. A considerable portion of his practice encompasses business IP counseling in the form of patentability evaluations, infringement evaluations, and right of use evaluations. Mr. Foster also conducts substantial transactional work related to assigning or licensing rights in patents, trademarks, copyrights, or trade secrets.

Mr. Foster's patent prosecution practice is broadly distributed across the mechanical, electrical, and software technology areas. Representative technologies include water treatment systems, oil drilling technology, micro-machining technology, molecular electronics, neural networks, advanced data compression routines, and medical image enhancement software. His patent prosecution includes not only United States patent applications, but also international (Patent Cooperation Treaty) patent applications. He has maintained a close working relationship with patent counsel in Europe, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Australia, as well as other countries around the world.

Mr. Foster engages in substantial trademark prosecution and business counseling related to trademarks. His trademark practice encompasses advising clients as to the scope of their own trademarks, their prospects for obtaining federal registration, and their responsibilities in relation to the trademarks of others.

Mr. Foster is a native of Alexandria, Louisiana. After graduating from law school, he completed the Army Engineer Officer Basic Course before clerking for Judge Rae Swent in the 9th JDC. In 1992, he was accepted into the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law's LL.M. program in Transnational Business Law and completed the program in 1993. In 1993 and 1994, he clerked for Judge (now Justice) Jeannette Knoll when she presided on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1994, Mr. Foster joined Roy, Kiesel and Tucker, where he practiced until joining Jones Walker in May 2001.
