Jon May is special counsel in the firm's Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group and a member of the Corporate Compliance & White Collar Defense team, based in the firm's Miami office. He defends individuals and institutions accused of serious violations of federal law, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, healthcare fraud, securities fraud, money laundering, mail and telemarketing fraud, mortgage fraud, racketeering, and violations of the Endangered Species Act and the Lacey Act. Mr. May has tried cases before federal district courts throughout the United States and has represented individuals in appeals before various federal Circuit Courts of Appeals.  

Earlier in his career, Mr. May served as a federal prosecutor in Miami for four years before founding his own criminal defense firm, May & Cohen, P.A., based in the Miami, Florida area, where he practiced for nearly 30 years.  

He has previously served as the Chair of the White Collar Crime Section of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is a past Co-Chair of the Defense Function Services Committee of the Criminal Justice Section of the American Bar Association. 

Mr. May received his juris doctor degree from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University. He is a member of The Florida Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Southern, Middle, and Northern District Courts of Florida.
