Chris Friend is a partner in the Litigation Practice Group. He represents oil and gas and chemical companies in all aspects of regulation and litigation.  

Chris represents oil and gas and chemical companies in all aspects of regulation and litigation, including property damage and toxic tort bodily injury, as well as regulatory matters before the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the Office of Conservation, and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. 

Co-lead of the firm’s environmental litigation team, Chris has litigated cases throughout Louisiana brought under Act 312, the Louisiana statute which governs remediation actions involving legacy E&P activity in the state. He has also litigated numerous toxic tort cases, ranging from mass tort chemical exposure cases to pipe yard NORM exposure cases. He is currently representing defendants in connection with multiple claims in litigation and arbitration arising from a sinkhole in Assumption Parish, Louisiana, a case in which plaintiffs sought billions of dollars in damages.

Chris has been principal counsel for a major chemical company in Louisiana for many years and has represented chemical companies in every type of litigation related to Louisiana operations, including chemical releases/mass tort exposure claims, soil/groundwater/surface water contamination, personal injury, and property damage (turbines, chlorine cells, brine pipelines, etc.).

Chris has also represented clients in connection with state regulatory proceedings and is familiar with the rules and regulations governing E&P activity in the state, including Statewide Rule 29-B, its related regulations, and RECAP.
