Of counsel to the firm, Russell King received his bachelor of business administration degree, cum laude, in 1971 from the University of Georgia, and his juris doctor degree in 1974 from The University of Georgia School of Law. Mr. King was in private practice in Savannah, Georgia from 1974–1975. In late 1975, he joined the Office of United States Senator Herman E. Talmadge in Washington D.C. as Legislative Assistant and Counsel and, subsequently, Legislative Director, where he was responsible for tax, trade, energy, and agricultural issues. In 1979, Mr. King moved to Atlanta, Georgia to join Southern Railway as Special Representative. He returned to Washington, D.C. in 1980, as Counsel to Freeport Minerals Company.

Mr. King currently serves as Senior Vice President of Freeport-McMoRan, an international natural resource company.

Mr. King joined Jones Walker in 2001 and represents Freeport-McMoRan and advises on policy matters regarding the United States Congress and federal agencies, as well as before national governments, including Indonesia, Chile, Peru, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
