Lionel Collins is director of government relations. He focuses on appropriations, tax, and trade issues.
Lionel has extensive federal and state government relations and advocacy experience and a well-earned reputation for achieving results and effectively representing the interests of clients before legislative and regulatory bodies.
Lionel recently served as an independent lobbying consultant for one of the most respected bipartisan government relations firms in Washington, DC. Before that, he was labor management liaison for the District of Columbia. During his appointment with the District, he was the sole staff member responsible for coordinating the DC Labor Management Partnership Council (LMPC), which included 20 heads of DC government departments/agencies as well as nearly two-dozen presidents of labor unions (who collectively represented approximately 85% of the District of Columbia’s workforce).
Previously, as a registered lobbyist with the DC office of Jones Walker, Lionel served as the lead lobbyist for the City of New Orleans. He also assisted with other legislative matters for clients with operations and interests in a broad range of industries, from academia to maritime, financial services, and energy companies, as well as legislative coalitions.
Prior to joining Jones Walker, Lionel served as chief of staff to Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson after having served as the legislative director and chief of staff to Congressman Pete Geren of Texas (formerly the Secretary of the Army) for five years. He also served as the legislative director to Congressman Ron DeLugo, delegate for the Virgin Islands. Before moving to the House of Representatives side of Capitol Hill, Lionel was a professional staff member to the Senate Banking Committee for two years. He also served as a legislative assistant on Louisiana US Senator Russell B. Long's staff for five years.
