Monique Garcia is special counsel in the Litigation Practice Group. Her practice focuses on federal white collar crime with an emphasis on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and money laundering statutes.
A member of the firm’s corporate compliance and white collar team, Monique works regularly with Ed Shohat and Jon May in representing local and foreign individuals in pre-indictment investigations and criminal litigation, as well as civil litigation involving allegations of criminal conduct.
Monique is also a creditor’s rights attorney, having handled more than a hundred cases in the recovery of millions of dollars-worth of assets on behalf of bank and private equity fund clients in state and federal courts in Florida and Texas. Her civil litigation experience extends to jury trials, class action defense, multi-district litigation, complex commercial disputes, fraud claims, and business tort claims.
Prior to joining Jones Walker, Monique was part of a civil trial team representing one of the world's largest hedge fund providers of administrative and custodial services, Citco Fund Services, in New York state and federal class action suits alleging fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and negligence theories of liability arising out of the Ponzi scheme perpetrated by Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities Inc.
She also completed a post-graduate fellowship with the Honorable Judge Ursula Ungaro of the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
