Von Hatley is managing director of Jones Walker Consulting LLC. He supports clients considering expansion, relocation, or consolidation of business operations, and economic development entities seeking to stimulate growth.
Von has more than 30 years of experience serving as a manufacturing executive, strategic management consultant, university educator, and economic development director under democratic and republican gubernatorial administrations. Over the past few years, Von has worked with companies on 4 continents identifying sites in over 20 states for potential location. The overall investment portfolio for his most recent clients has exceeded $3 billion in investment, securing incentive offers valued at over several hundred million dollars from federal, state and local partners.
A respected thought leader, Von speaks regularly at national economic development conferences across the country on manufacturing, aerospace, foreign direct investment, site-selection, and related trends. For several years, he has been asked by Area Development Magazine to participate in its periodic surveys of the nation’s top site consultants, and he is one of a select few participants to provide commentary in the publication on the results of these surveys. Von has also provided commentary on the magazine’s surveys of CEOs on the best states in which to do business.
As a manufacturing executive, Von was responsible for the management of several hundred employees across multiple domestic and international plant sites. He was responsible for more than 700,000 square feet of distribution facilities in New Orleans that served more than two dozen tenants. During that time, Von taught senior-level marketing strategy courses at Southern University in New Orleans.
During his career as a strategic management consultant, Von advised Global 1000 clients such as General Motors, American Axle, Rolls Royce-Aerospace, and Pacific Gas and Electric. He oversaw the sales and delivery of more than $40 million in consulting revenue and improved overall profitability for his clients in excess of $500 million. Von worked throughout the United States and internationally in the Middle East, Canada, South America, Western Europe, and the Pacific Rim.
During his tenure in Louisiana Economic Development, Von had direct responsibility for more than $6 billion in announced investments, which created and retained more than 20,000 manufacturing jobs. In addition, he was responsible for the development and structure of more than $3 billion in overall incentive offers. He served as team leader for projects involving General Motors, Bollinger Shipyards, Union Tank Car, Shaw/Westinghouse, Northrop Grumman, EADS, Nucor, Libbey Glass, and Continental Airlines.
In his state capacity, he worked with all required federal, state, local, and related regional agencies and departments. His responsibilities included serving as the state’s single point of contact and liaison for incentive negotiations, required approvals and permitting. He was the overall project contact monitor, responsible for managing the entire process for grant disbursement and monitoring of claw-back provisions.
