William M. Backstrom, Jr. and Jesse R. "Jay" Adams, III, both partners in the firm's Tax & Estates Practice Group in the New Orleans office, published an article in the Oil & Gas Financial Journal. In their article titled, "Energy Companies at Risk of Higher Taxes in Louisiana," Mr. Backstrom and Mr. Adams explain that tax assessors in a number of Louisiana parishes are attempting to implement new methods to classify and value underground salt caverns used by energy companies to store natural gas and other petroleum products. The article provides an overview of how this issue affects energy companies doing business in Louisiana.
