William M. Backstrom, Jr. and Matthew A. Mantle, both partners in the firm's Tax & Estates Practice Group in the New Orleans Office, were quoted in the Bloomberg BNA article, “Louisiana Governor May Propose Gross Receipts Tax.” Mr. Backstrom said, “I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a gross receipts tax in Louisiana that has a little bit of Ohio, and a little bit of Texas in there.” Mantle added the administration likely considers the gross receipts tax as a plan B, resulting from the lack of appetite among lawmakers to make changes to the personal income tax or the reattempt at eliminating the corporate deduction for federal income taxes paid.
