Bill Backstrom, a partner on the state and local tax team in the New Orleans office, served on the advisory board and presented at Deloitte’s 2026 National Multistate Tax Symposium on February 5, 2026, in Florida. During his panel “Credits and Incentives: Proactively obtaining, defending, and sustaining,” Bill examined the ever-evolving changes and developments in statutory and discretionary credits and incentives (C&I) at the federal, state, and local levels, and offered actionable guidance on successfully obtaining and retaining C&I and practical approaches to find and preserve C&I benefits. He also provided practical guidance on a team approach to managing the C&I function within a business. Additionally, Bill emphasized the need for proactive actions to find, retain, and maintain various C&I, both “on the menu and off the menu,” and tips for planning, documenting, and reporting in the C&I world.
