William M. Backstrom, Jr., partner in the firm’s Tax & Estates Practice Group, was quoted in an article published by The News-Star, a Monroe, Louisiana newspaper, on June 25, 2012. The article titled, “Law firm, CPAs urge taxpayers to continue filing for fuel tax credit,” discusses why Louisiana citizens should continue to file for the Louisiana Alternative Fuel Tax Credit. Gov. Bobby Jindal recently rejected an emergency declaration by the Louisiana Department of Revenue that expanded the list of qualifying vehicles to those with a flex fuel designation. When discussing the emergency declaration and its rejection, Mr. Backstrom states , “The emergency declaration seems like it follows the law to us. The words of the statute say what they say, and they can only be changed by the Legislature.”
