William M. Backstrom, Jr., State & Local Tax Practice Group Leader, was quoted in the Tax Notes article "Voters Legalize Pot but Reject Taxes on Tobacco, Gross Receipts, Carbon." Mr. Backstrom discussed the setback for Governor Edwards' efforts to stabilize Louisiana's complicated tax system since Louisiana voters rejected a ballot measure to amend the constitution and eliminate the state’s allowance of a deduction of federal income taxes for corporations when they calculate their state income tax liability.
