William W. Horton, a partner in the firm's Business & Commercial Transactions Practice Group and member of the Healthcare Team in the Birmingham office, was quoted in an article published by the Birmingham Business Journal on May 14, 2014. The article titled, "Should Obamacare's Employer Mandate be Repealed?", discussed a report released by the Urban Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank, that argues eliminating the employer mandate component of the Affordable Care Act would result in virtually no adverse effects on employer-based coverage. After discussing the report, the article concluded, "Bill Horton, partner at Jones Walker LLP, says it's important to remember that many of these numbers are speculative and that the effects of the employer mandate, whether it is implemented or not, are hard to predict.
"'Much of the Affordable Care Act itself is composed of a lot of moving parts, with the employer mandate being a major one of those,' Horton said. 'Many of the effects of the mandate remain open to debate and it's hard to predict exactly what kind of effects it will have on businesses of any size.'"
