Grady Hurley, a partner in the New Orleans office and co-leader of the firm’s maritime litigation and arbitration team, and Jeanne Amy, an associate in the Maritime Practice Group in the New Orleans office, authored the Maritime Executive article “Fifth Circuit to Reconsider Jones Act Seaman Status Decision En Banc” about the recent Fifth Circuit Sanchez decision to reconsider en banc its test for determining whether offshore workers who are assigned to work on vessels offshore are Jones Act seaman. Grady and Jeanne explain that the Fifth Circuit’s en banc consideration will affect the status of all workers assigned to special-purpose watercraft who are not directly involved with the vessel’s navigational function.
