It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our former partner and beloved colleague, J.J. Jaskot. He was a member of the firm’s Government Relations Practice Group in the Washington DC office and, at the time of his death, was of counsel to the firm following his retirement at the end of 2017.
J.J. received his bachelor of science in Ocean Science, with honors, from the US Coast Guard Academy in 1976. Following Coast Guard afloat and other operational assignments, he received his juris doctor degree, with honors, from The George Washington University Law School in 1984. After admittance to the District of Columbia Bar that same year, J.J. worked in Coast Guard headquarters and regional legal offices on a wide variety of domestic and international legal matters, including national security, marine safety and environmental protection, law enforcement, and regulatory and administrative law matters. In 1992, J.J. served as a fellow on the US Senate Subcommittee on Transportation Appropriations, followed by his assignment as the Coast Guard Liaison to the US Senate, where he worked on the many legislative and funding issues affecting that federal agency. At Jones Walker, he continued to maintain close working relationships with federal agencies and Congress to serve the interests of his clients.
The attorneys and staff of Jones Walker extend their deepest condolences to J.J.’s family and all those who called him, friend.
