It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our colleague and friend, Bill Joyce, after a brief battle with cancer.
After retiring from more than two decades of service as an aviator and surface warfare officer in the US Navy, where he piloted both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, Bill joined Jones Walker in 1988 and had a 35-year long career as a leader in the firm’s aviation litigation practice.
Bill most recently served as special counsel in the Litigation Practice Group where he focused his practice on commercial aviation, general aviation, and maintenance, repair, and overall (MRO) issues. He also advised and counseled clients in connection with product liability matters for aircraft engine and component manufacturers, operators, and maintenance facilities. Bill handled numerous bench and jury trials in state and federal courts in Louisiana, Texas, and Florida.
A commercial pilot who was instrument rated, Bill brought firsthand aviation experience to his practice. Even in retirement, he re-engaged with the firm and played a critical role in growing our aviation practice several years ago.
The following arrangements have been provided. A Celebration of Life will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2026 at Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans.
The attorneys and staff of Jones Walker extend their deepest condolences to Bill’s family, friends, and loved ones.
