Jay Adams and Andre Burvant, partners in the Tax Practice Group in the New Orleans office, spoke at the 2020 Council on State Taxation Property Tax Workshop held on September 30–October 2, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jay presented three panel sessions: “Putting It All Together by Working Together,” “Proactively Address Property Tax Issues – Minimize the Need to Appeal,” and “Ask the Experts.”

Andre presented on the panel “Incentives and Credits – Take Advantage of the Opportunities & Avoid the Pitfalls,” focusing on efforts by state and local governments, including assessors, to minimize incentives and exemption benefits, change the rules of the game after the incentive/credit package is in place, to inflate the market value of properties subject to an incentive, and to discuss strategies for managing those efforts.
