NEW ORLEANS—The firm is pleased to announce that Jesse R. “Jay” Adams, III and Andre Burvant have joined the firm as partners in the Tax Practice Group. Both will practice from the firm’s New Orleans office.
William H. Hines, firm managing partner, expressed his enthusiasm for the hires. “Jones Walker has hired two very talented tax partners, giving us an even stronger tax practice. Jay and Andre bring additional capabilities in the state and local tax area that include tax planning, controversy and policy matters on a multi-state basis. They have a great deal of experience representing the oil and gas and pulp and paper industries particularly.”
Prior to joining Jones Walker, Adams and Burvant were members of the law firm of Oreck Crighton Adams & Chase where Mr. Adams was a founding member. Mr. Adams received his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law in 1990 and his B.A. in History from the University of Mississippi in 1985. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia and in Louisiana and has represented clients in matters involving practically every type of state and local tax in a number of states and local jurisdictions. He is a frequent speaker to a variety of professional organizations, including the Institute for Professionals in Taxation and the Tax Executives Institute. He recently prevailed in a landmark Louisiana state tax case, International Paper Company vs. Bridges, in which the Louisiana Supreme Court issued a ruling that will result in refunds and future tax savings of tens of millions of dollars for Louisiana businesses.
Mr. Burvant received both his B.S. in Accounting and his law degree from Louisiana State University. He is a certified public accountant in addition to being licensed to practice law in Louisiana. His practice includes state and local tax planning, audit defense, tax refunds and credits, and tax controversy work against the Louisiana Department of Revenue and local parish taxing agencies. Mr. Burvant has represented clients in tax controversies before the Louisiana Board of Tax Appeals and in state and federal courts.
