Jones Walker served as counsel to Alabama-based Southern States Bancshares Inc., holding company of Southern States Bank, in a merger with Georgia-based CBB Bancorp, holding company of Century Bank of Georgia, set to close in the third quarter of 2024. Mike Waters, Clint Smith, and Rob Carothers, all partners on the Banking & Financial Services Industry Team, assisted with corporate topics, regulatory filings, and the merger agreement for this transaction. The acquisition was featured in the Business Alabama article “Southern States Bancshares acquires CBB Bancorp,” published on February 28, 2024. The deal will result in 15 branches and two loan offices for Southern States, and a name change for all Century Bank of Georgia branches.
