NEW ORLEANS— Edward R. Shohat has joined Jones Walker LLP's Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group as special counsel. He is a member of the Corporate Compliance & White Collar Defense team and resident in the firm's Miami office.

Mr. Shohat's practice focuses on state and federal white collar crime and related forfeitures, as well as the defense of civil RICO cases and matters involving the U.S. Patriot Act, Sarbanes Oxley and corporate compliance issues. He represents clients in criminal and civil litigation involving allegations of criminal conduct, including corporate and civil counsel consultation on potential law enforcement exposures of corporate and other business entities. He also represents corporations and individuals in internal investigations and pre-indictment charge avoidance efforts, as well as in grand jury subpoena and testimony matters.

In addition, Mr. Shohat counsels clients on the immigration implications of criminal problems and related planning issues for corporate and individual clients.

Mr. Shohat has been widely recognized for his legal skills. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for Criminal Defense for 26 consecutive years. In 2010, he was named "Most Effective Lawyer" for Criminal Justice by the South Florida Daily Business Review. He is a Fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers and has been selected as a member of the American Bar Foundation.  In 2010, Mr. Shohat won the Michael Shores Citizen Of The Year Award by the Kiwanis Club of Biscayne Bay. He is also Vice Chair of the Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board.

He has lectured numerous seminars on criminal defense throughout the country and has appeared on Larry King Live, CNN Crossfire and many other national broadcasts.
