NEW ORLEANS—In the latest expansion of Jones Walker LLP's Healthcare and Labor & Employment practices, the law firm announced today that it has hired six lawyers in Birmingham, AL.
The addition of partners Mac B. Greaves and William W. Horton, along with four special counsel, also provides a significant boost to the firm's Birmingham office. Jones Walker, which first entered the Birmingham legal market in 2008, will grow to 26 lawyers.
Mr. Greaves is a Labor & Employment lawyer with more than 33 years of experience, while Mr. Horton has substantial experience in healthcare law, both in private practice and as former general counsel of one of the nation's largest publicly traded healthcare providers. They and special counsel Sarah Canzoniero Blutter, Anna-Katherine Bowman, Monica Nelson Fischer and Daniel J. Martin formerly worked for Johnston Barton in Birmingham.
"We are excited because this team gives us a more robust presence in Birmingham while expanding the skillset of our Healthcare and Labor & Employment practices," said William H. Hines, Managing Partner. "These attorneys will be a tremendous asset to our firm and clients in Alabama and throughout the United States."
The hiring of the team led by Mr. Greaves and Mr. Horton marks the latest additions to Jones Walker's Labor & Employment and Healthcare practices. In January, the firm welcomed Joseph (JoJo) Adams, a Labor & Employment partner in Jackson, MS, and William W. Waring Jr., a partner in the New Orleans office and head of the Healthcare team.
"This was an excellent opportunity to join a law firm that has not only a great national reputation and outstanding lawyers, but also a strong and growing Healthcare practice," said Mr. Horton.
Mr. Horton's primary focus is on the representation of healthcare providers, financial services organizations and other business enterprises in the areas of mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, securities and corporate finance law, regulatory compliance and corporate governance matters. In addition, Mr. Horton serves as Vice Chair of the American Bar Association's Health Law Section and as Chair of the Business Law and Governance Practice Group of the American Health Lawyers Association.
Mr. Greaves routinely provides advice to clients concerning all employment-related issues in an effort to avoid litigation, union organizing efforts and other state and federal investigations. He also handles charges before administrative agencies, investigations and litigation involving matters arising out of all state and federal employment laws.
"I'm thrilled to join Jones Walker and its thriving Labor & Employment practice, as well as to be part of the firm's continued growth in the Birmingham legal market," said Mr. Greaves.
Sarah Blutter advises and defends employers in daily employee issues, government investigations, discrimination complaints at the agency and federal court level, and in all stages of litigation. She also advises on and conducts training regarding equal employment opportunity and immigration compliance. Ms. Blutter formerly served as Senior Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where she brought federal employment discrimination cases on behalf of the United States, as well as defended and counseled the agency on its own employees' claims.
Anna-Katherine Bowman's practice focuses on products liability, medical malpractice, workers' compensation, insurance litigation, family law and litigation, premises liability, real estate, construction, nursing home liability and professional liability.
Monica Fischer regularly advises and represents clients in all facets of healthcare law. Her practice includes assisting clients with complying with federal and state laws directly impacting the healthcare industry, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPAA"), the state of Alabama's certificate of need laws, and Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
Dan Martin has a broad litigation practice with a focus on business, commercial contract and insurance disputes, labor and employment matters, products liability, mortgage and consumer lending issues, healthcare fraud investigations and governmental investigations, white collar criminal defense and appellate matters. Mr. Martin has successfully represented clients of all sizes, from individuals to Fortune 500 companies, at the trial and appellate levels of both federal and state courts and in various alternative dispute resolution forums.
