In April 2016, Michel Nicrosi, a partner in the firm's Business & Commercial Litigation Practice Group in the Mobile office, filed a clemency petition with the Office of the Pardon Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, as pro bono counsel, on behalf of Timothy Wayne Seabury. Mr. Seabury was serving a life sentence for drug trafficking based on his conviction in federal court in Mobile, Alabama, in 2011, when he was 43 years old. In November 2016, Ms. Nicrosi filed a supplemental request for clemency for Mr. Seabury again seeking a sentencing reduction from President Barack Obama. On January 19, 2017, as one of his last official acts, President Obama granted clemency to Mr. Seabury and commuted Mr. Seabury’s life sentence to a prison term of 235 months. He will be released from custody in approximately nine years.
