Thomas B. Shepherd III, a partner in the Jackson office and co-leader of the firm's Gaming team, was interviewed several times recently about the effect of the Murphy v. NCAA ruling on sports gambling in Mississippi. Mr. Shepherd appeared on a WLOX TV segment at the Gulf Coast Business Council meeting, saying, “The surrounding states either have no gaming at all or have not approved sports betting yet. So, Mississippi is in the catbird's seat as far as being able to take advantage of this opportunity…The estimates that I've seen are somewhere between $50 and $150 million dollars in additional gaming revenue in the state.” He also appeared on WXXV 25 TV in an interview about regulations that the gaming commission has already started to put in place in Mississippi, explaining how they will use geo-fencing technology to ensure that gambling activities are only taking place within the confines of a physical location. Mr. Shepherd was also called upon to provide commentary for several gaming industry blogs on the topic.
