Julia Banegas, special counsel in the Maritime Practice Group and a member of the maritime regulatory team in the Washington, DC office, presented to members of International Freight Forwarders & Customs Broker Association of New Orleans on July 15, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her talk focused on best practices for NVOCCs and provided insights into recent actions by the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). Topics included co-loading practices, demurrage and detention (D&D) invoicing, and the FMC’s new regulations on unreasonable refusal to deal. Julia also addressed the implications of Section 301 tariffs imposed by the US Trade Representative on Chinese shipping.
