Kassie Taylor, special counsel in the firm’s Maritime Practice Group in the Miami office, presented to the Florida Bar Admiralty Law Committee during the 2023 Florida Bar Winter Meeting on January 19th. During her presentation, “Sea of Change: Are Seafarers Still 'Wards of Admiralty'?", Kassie discussed a recent US 11th Circuit Court decision suggesting a cruise line's duty to provide maintenance and cure may not be as broad as previously thought and may signal that crewmembers may no longer be entitled to the special treatment afforded them as wards of admiralty.
