Jim Wright, a partner in the Maritime Practice Group, presented at the Associated Branch Pilots' Navigating the Mississippi River to Agricultural, Energy, Environmental and Tourism Dominance Maritime Industry Seminar June 2–5, 2026, in Lake Oconee, Georgia. Jim's presentation "The Iranian Conflict: Contractual and Insurance Provisions for Today’s Hostile World" focused on time and voyage charter provisions for vessel operations in areas of war, piracy, terrorism, and other hostile situations threatening the safety of the ship and crew. He also discussed war risk insurance coverages, the master's right to protect the ship and crew, frustration of contract claims, and the impact of the March 18, 2026, administration waiver of the Jones Act for energy commodities. Attendees included maritime industry stakeholders on the Mississippi River, Bar Pilots, tanker owners, container ship owner/operators, steel manufacturers, liquified natural gas shippers, petroleum refiners and shippers, grain and soybean shippers, dredging companies, commodity trade associations, cruise ship operators, shipping agents, maritime freight forwarders, and government relations representatives.
