Jeffrey
Joseph, Jr.

Position
Associate
Office
New Orleans

Jeff Joseph is an associate in the Tax Practice Group, where he advises clients on federal and state taxation, tax credit transactions, and other complex matters.

Jeff is an experienced tax attorney who draws on his comprehensive background in tax credit transactions, commercial real estate, and federal and state taxation to provide sophisticated counsel to individuals, corporations, institutional investors, project developers, lenders, and community development entities (CDEs). He has significant experience with projects involving low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC), new markets tax credits (NMTC), and historic rehabilitation tax credits, as well as tax credit bridge financing arrangements. Working closely with members of the firm’s Corporate Practice Group, Jeff also advises clients on optimizing the tax structure for acquisitions and divestitures of businesses.

He has helped structure complex, multilayered financing transactions that combine various federal and state tax incentives with conventional debt and equity financing. Among other matters, Jeff represents national and regional banks, investment funds, real estate developers, and equity investors across the spectrum of tax credit transactions, including affordable housing, mixed-use developments, and commercial real estate projects throughout the Southeastern United States.

Prior to joining Jones Walker, he was an associate at a boutique New Orleans tax law firm, where he represented real estate developers, tax credit investors, and lenders in connection with federal and state tax credit transactions. Jeff also counseled clients on a broad range of corporate and real estate matters and federal and state income tax issues.

While in law school, he served as research editor for the Tulane Journal of International and Comparative Law and gained valuable experience as a judicial extern for Judge Jerry A. Brown of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana and Judge Kathleen Kay of the US District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.

Jeff’s dual legal and business education enables him to approach complex transactions with both legal precision and business acumen, helping clients identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
